Welcome to the Julian bird watching web-site. Julian is a small mountain community of San Diego. It's full of nature, open spaces, and it seems to us ... birds.
The Kenner Ranch is the oldest working ranch in the Julian area. It has a great history. And fortunately, a wide variety of wild-life that we are able include as aspects of our horseback rides.
Our avian residents seem to be strongly represented. Therefore, we decided to document, study and monitor them. More ...
Our avian wild-life is so important to us that we have begun documenting and studying it for the purposes of sharing it with our visitors as well as preserving the ecosystems that nurture its diversity.
This web-site represents our ongoing efforts. We have used Kenn Kaufman's bird identification guide "Birds of North America" as the foundation for this web-site's structure. We hope you find it convenient. We wanted to further identify locations and seasonal data to help others enjoy a high level of bird sighting success should other birding enthusiats visit our specific region.
Within this site are pictures organized against Mr. Kaufman's work and the locality in which the bird was photographed. These photographs are mostly the determined work of Mr. Daniel Kenner. Each picture has its location establish in the sub-titles to the image (also the work of Daniel). To establish the location on a map, you merely need to use the city and sub-location data to select the appropriate map under the heading of "Birdwatching Maps."
Bird watching as a hobby is hard.
We can see why people become so passionate about it. Each unique species has its own unique niche. Maybe, more than anything else, we revel in this concept. This diversity challenges us to understand the diversity of Southern California in order to "catch" a glimpse of some unique animal. In a way, seeing diverse birds allows us to "see" the diversity of California ecosystems even when elements of these ecosystems are on the "move (changing seasons, migrating food, etc)."
Finally, we have integrated an
on-line Field-Journaling System.
This system is setup to bring as
many bird-watchers together
as possible for the purposes
of sharing ideas, methods, and
successes in their bird sighting
efforts. We hope you find it
helpful.
